This year’s meeting is taking place just one week after the official opening of accession negotiations on the first cluster of chapters, “Fundamental Values.”
The Republic of Moldova will be represented by President Maia Sandu, while the EU will be represented by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to the EU delegation in Chisinau, “the security and resilience of the Republic of Moldova will be at the center of the summit’s agenda in the context of Russia’s ongoing hybrid attacks and the consequences of its war of aggression against Ukraine.” The leaders will discuss deepening cooperation, strengthening energy security, diversifying supply sources, and improving energy efficiency.
In addition, the agenda for the discussions will include next steps in the negotiations and reforms in the Republic of Moldova.
Daniela Morar, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, explained in an interview with TVR Moldova that this event is an opportunity to express political support and once again reaffirm all the results achieved since the previous summit.
“At the same time, it is an opportunity to lay the groundwork for new initiatives and new elements of further cooperation. We also have a number of important practical results in various fields and sectors: the announcement of new high-level dialogues, the organization of new meetings, access to new agencies and instruments, such as the European Tourism Agency, as well as participation in certain networks in the fields of legal, trade, and economic cooperation,” — noted Daniela Morar.
Following the event in Brussels, the leaders will adopt a joint declaration and hold a press conference to present the conclusions of the discussions.
