Poultry farmers explained the rise in the price of eggs

The price of hen's egg has risen by 20-25% in Moldovan retail, in November the prices for this product exceeded the level of 40 lei per dozen. Poultry farmers attribute this fact to the intensification of exports to the European Union, Logos Press reports.

Poultry farmers explained the rise in the price of eggs

Market operators note in this regard that due to outbreaks of avian influenza in a number of EU countries, poultry farmers had to liquidate the livestock of some industrial farms. As a result, egg prices on the European market increased by 20-30%.

In Moldova, according to statistical data, in January-September 2025 compared to the same period last year, egg production increased by 1% – up to 498.5 million pieces. At the same time, wholesale prices for this commodity from its producers increased by 20.1% in the mentioned period.
