Moldova entered TOP-3 wheat exporters to the EU

In the 2024-25 marketing season, Moldova became the third largest exporter of wheat to the EU market with a share of 8.1% and a volume of 603.8 thousand tons.

Moldova entered TOP-3 wheat exporters to the EU

In the list of the largest wheat suppliers to the EU, our country took a position after Ukraine (more than 60%) and Canada (16%). Below Moldova in the top 5 exporters to the EU were Serbia (7.2%) and the USA (5.7%), according to Eurostat data.

Compared to the previous season, Moldova’s share in the EU wheat market increased. In the season 2023-24, Moldova’s share in the total volume of wheat imports to the EU was 7.7%, although in that season our country supplied more goods – 707 thousand tons. In other words, in the recently completed marketing season, the “Moldovan segment” in percentage terms increased due to the general reduction of wheat imports to the EU market last season.

Overall, during the past season (July 2024-June 2025) Moldova exported 838.7 thousand tons of wheat at an average price of 3.88 lei/kg. Compared to the previous season, when the volume of exports exceeded 1.34 million tons, external supplies decreased by 37.5%. At the same time, the average export price of Moldovan wheat in the last marketing season increased by about 7.7%.

The moderate recovery of prices comes after two years of continuous decline. The average price of Moldovan export wheat reached a five-year high in the 2022-23 season. – 5.15 lei/kg.
