The ministry made this statement in response to the Russian Federation’s intention to open an additional 16 polling stations in the Transnistrian region for the State Duma elections without the consent of Moldova’s constitutional authorities.
This is unacceptable and violates the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Moldova recognizes the right of foreign citizens present on its territory to participate in elections organized by their countries of citizenship. However, the exercise of this right must be carried out with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
“The organization of electoral processes by foreign states on the country’s territory must be agreed upon in advance with the constitutional authorities in Moldova,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in its statement.
In the context of the State Duma elections scheduled for September 2026, the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova has agreed with the Moldovan authorities to open only one polling station in Chisinau.
At the same time, the Russian authorities intend to open an additional 16 polling stations in the Transnistrian region without the consent of Moldova’s constitutional authorities.
The elections to the Russian State Duma will take place from September 18 to 20, 2026.
