As part of an ongoing criminal investigation—during which approximately 1,000,000 cigarettes had previously been seized—customs officials identified another man, 48, who is believed to be involved in the scheme under investigation.
New information obtained during the investigation led to four search warrants being executed in southern Moldova.
As a result, 20 cartons containing 200,000 domestic brand filtered cigarettes, as well as 14 cartons containing 84 kg of hookah tobacco without excise stamps, were discovered and seized.
We remind you that, as part of the same case, three searches were previously conducted, resulting in the seizure of approximately 1,000,000 cigarettes stored in 100 cartons and allegedly intended for illegal export from the country. At the same time, approximately 600,000 lei—presumably obtained through criminal means—were seized, along with a vehicle that may have been used to commit the crime, computer equipment, and other items relevant to the case.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case and identify all individuals involved. A 48-year-old man is wanted by the authorities.
