Donald Trump
CNN reports this.
The U.S. has notified its political allies of a change in strategy: the approach of “crushing Iran as soon as possible” has been replaced by the idea of “strangling it” over time. While Donald Trump had previously claimed on multiple occasions that negotiations were going well and a new deal was about to be concluded, the U.S. leader now says there are no diplomatic efforts underway in this regard, CNN notes.
According to the network’s sources, the U.S. president has instructed his negotiating team—which includes his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff—not to engage with Tehran. Although the president issued this order following “positive talks” with Iran, CNN sources explained that Donald Trump is dissatisfied with Tehran’s unwillingness to concede to his demands. As noted, before resuming negotiations, the American leader wants to wait until the leaders of the Islamic Republic demonstrate a willingness to strike the deal he is seeking.
Donald Trump previously wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that the U.S. is not conducting and does not plan to conduct negotiations with Iran.
