TEUS Director Dmitry Kazanin reported this to USM.

According to him, the previously high cost of rail transit through Moldova significantly limited the use of this route. In many cases, road transport was more cost-effective, so some shippers and traders did not consider rail to be a competitive option.

Following the reduction in tariffs, rail will be able to compete more effectively with road transport, especially when transporting large shipments of grain, oilseeds, flour, fertilizers, and other bulk cargo.

Kazanin also noted that this decision could shift the balance of freight flows between Izmail and Reni.

Previously, a significant portion of cargo was routed to Izmail due to cheaper overland logistics. Delivering railcars to Reni via costly transit through Moldova often made it less attractive than alternative routes.

Following the reduction in tariffs, Reni may become significantly more competitive for Ukrainian traders and shippers.
