The rescuers were welcomed on August 17 and honored at a ceremony organized at Regional Search and Rescue Directorate No. 1 in Chisinau, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

For a month, the Moldovan team participated daily in monitoring the fire situation and conducting operational activities under the coordination of the Greek Fire Corps.

One of the most challenging operations took place on August 13–14 in the Siviri area, in the municipality of Kassandra in the Chalkidiki region. Moldovan firefighters worked nonstop, helping to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to populated and vulnerable areas.

This mission marks the fourth for Moldovan firefighters in Greece and the third since Moldova gained full participant status in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

During the 2026 fire season, the European Union mobilized 777 firefighters from 14 countries, who were pre-positioned in several regions of Southern Europe ahead of the peak forest fire season.

The participation of Moldovan firefighters in this international mission provided them with additional practical experience working in challenging conditions and collaborating with international teams.
