Valentin Railean
After ten years of working in the printing industry, Valentin Railean noticed a problem that recurred day after day: large volumes of paper waste generated during the production process were being sent abroad for recycling.
The companies in Moldova that had been operating in this sector—for example, those manufacturing cardboard or toilet paper—had ceased operations.
This observation gave rise to a business idea that would utilize local resources and contribute to environmental protection.
Today, through his company, Repack Company, Valentin produces packaging made from recycled paper, offering an eco-friendly alternative to the plastic packaging used for eggs, fruits, vegetables, and other products.
The business idea emerged two years ago, but turning it into a viable project required support, knowledge, and financial resources. After testing the product, Valentin was able to secure consulting services and modest financial support through the “Better Development Through Social Entrepreneurship” project, implemented by Junior Achievement Moldova as part of the EU4Youth program.
Participating in the project was a crucial step in the business’s development. During this period, Valentin benefited from training, mentoring, and a 2,000-euro grant, which provided him with the resources and support needed to refine his business model and define a growth strategy.
The budding entrepreneur invested the remaining funds himself, with help from relatives and acquaintances.
His plans for the future are ambitious. Repack is already working to diversify its product range by adding industrial packaging for electronic products. The overall goal is to provide customized solutions for various industries and help reduce plastic use.
