Rail and bus services will be integrated in Ungheni

The municipality of Ungheni plans to build a modern multimodal transportation hub that will integrate rail and bus services. The central government intends to transfer ownership of the train station and bus station to the city government, after which the two entities plan to jointly modernize the facility.

This was announced by Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, during a visit to Ungheni.

The project calls for the creation of a unified transportation complex that will integrate rail and bus services. It is expected that trains will bring passengers from Iași and Chișinău, while buses will provide onward transportation to settlements in the Ungheni district and, eventually, throughout the entire region.

“A train will be parked in front of the building, bringing passengers from Iași and Chișinău, while buses will be parked behind it to take them to all the villages in the district and, in the future, throughout the region,” Bolea said.

The minister noted that the project is intended to make public transportation more comfortable and safer, and to ensure that fares are affordable and fair for passengers.

After the facility is transferred, the Ungheni City Hall intends to invest in its restoration.

“We will invest in it together to repair it as quickly as possible and restore public, urban, international, and national transportation here,” said Vitalie Vrabie, mayor of Ungheni.
