The agreement was reached in Chisinau during a meeting between President Maia Sandu and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, who was visiting the Republic of Moldova for the first time.
According to the head of state, Bavaria is one of Europe’s most economically developed regions, and Moldova is interested in drawing on German expertise in areas such as industry, modern technologies, agriculture, and regional development.
“We want more Moldovan companies to integrate into Bavaria’s production chains, and for companies from this region to discover opportunities for investment and business development in the Republic of Moldova,” Maia Sandu stated.
The president noted that Bavaria plays an important role in Moldova’s trade relations with Germany. More than half of Moldova’s exports to the German market are directed specifically to this region. In 2025, the volume of exports to Bavaria grew by more than 50% and reached 73 million euros.
Maia Sandu also emphasized the importance of Germany’s support in Moldova’s European integration process. According to her, the country is counting on making progress toward EU accession based on the reforms carried out and concrete results.
“We do not expect any exceptions or shortcuts. We want the process to be based on merit and real progress,” the president emphasized.
Markus Söder stated that Bavaria supports the Republic of Moldova’s European path and believes that the country should become part of the European Union.
“We see that Moldova is doing serious work. We advocate for this process to be not only swift but also fair,” noted the Bavarian Prime Minister.
According to him, the new commission will address issues related to the economy, agriculture, modern technologies, artificial intelligence, and medicine. Bavaria is ready to share its experience and develop joint projects with Moldova.
