The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy approved an advisory opinion on the signing of an amendment to the agreement between the Federation and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The document provides for an increase in the amount of the grant.
According to the amendment, the amount of funding will be increased from 300,000 to 580,000 Swiss francs (approximately 12.5 million lei) as part of the project “Support for the Operation of Temporary Refugee Accommodation Centers and Assistance During the Cold Season in the Republic of Moldova.”
Moldova has already received the first tranche of 300,000 Swiss francs (approximately 6.5 million lei). The remaining amount will be transferred after the amendment is signed, but no later than the end of this year.
The funds will be used to cover the operating costs of 12 active temporary accommodation centers, which currently house 628 Ukrainian refugees. The bulk of the funding will be used to pay for goods and services from local suppliers—including utilities, food, cleaning and maintenance, transportation costs, and the purchase of hygiene supplies.
This decision continues the cooperation between the ICRC and the Republic of Moldova in supporting refugee accommodation centers, which began in 2023. During this period, in addition to the funds provided for in the new agreement, the Federation has provided Moldova with grants totaling 2.5 million Swiss francs.
