The average number of employees at SMEs was 393,000, accounting for 71.6% of the total average headcount of employees across all enterprises (compared to 70.9% in 2024).
Revenue from sales by SMEs totaled 563.3 billion lei, or 73.4% of total sales revenue for the economy as a whole (compared to 71.7% in 2024). This represents a 17.5% increase compared to 2024.
In 2025, average sales per enterprise in the SME sector amounted to 7.6 million lei, which is 0.6 million lei (or 8.6%) more than in 2024.
Average revenue per company in this sector was 1,433,300 lei, which is 187,500 lei (or 15.1%) more than in 2024.
Pre-tax profit earned by small and medium-sized enterprises in 2025 totaled 53.2 billion lei, which is more than a quarter higher than in 2024.
The average number of employees per enterprise in 2025 was 6 (the same as in 2024).
In 2025, the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (approximately 30.7%) operated in the trade sector. 10.0% of SMEs were engaged in professional, scientific, and technical activities; 8.7% in agriculture, forestry, and fishing; and 7.4% of all SMEs in the manufacturing sector.
