This is the position of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova (CNSM). CNSM members presented their position at a meeting of the tripartite National Commission on Consultations and Collective Bargaining, which brought together the government, employers’ associations, and labor unions.
The social partners discussed issues related to wages, changes to labor legislation, combating undeclared employment, protecting workers in the event of employer bankruptcy, and regulating prices for domestically produced medications.
The labor unions reiterated Moldova’s obligation to comply with European legislation, under which the minimum wage is set at half of the projected average wage for the economy. They also called for the minimum wage for 2027 to be set well in advance, in accordance with national legislation and the European Directive on an Adequate Minimum Wage.
The NCPM emphasizes that the increase is necessary due to the rising cost of living and will serve as a measure to support low-income workers.
In 2025, the minimum wage in Moldova was set at 5,500 lei, while the projected average monthly wage for the economy was 16,100 lei. In 2026, the minimum wage was raised to 6,300 lei, with the average wage at 17,400 lei.
