Before the meeting began, the capital’s mayor, Ion Ceban, stated that the authorities had followed all legal procedures and held consultations. He clarified that 98% of the proposals submitted by city council members had been taken into account. Once again, he appealed to the council members to demonstrate responsibility and political maturity in supporting the draft budget.
He emphasized that the municipal budget includes projects which, when added together, exceed the total of those implemented over the past two years. As of last Friday, there were approximately 900 million lei in the mayor’s office’s accounts, the mayor reported.
The city council meeting, which was scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m., started later. And at the time of writing, the question of including a vote on the budget on the agenda had not yet been approved.
Council members debated procedural issues and also demanded that the agenda include items regarding elevator repair projects, an animal shelter, and allowing all pensioners in the republic to ride the capital’s public transportation for free, among other matters.
