The Danube becomes shallower as it flows through Romania

According to the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources Management (INHGA), over the next week, the flow rate of the Danube at the Baziash section will drop to 1,850 cubic meters per second, which is significantly below the long-term annual average for July (4,700 cubic meters per second).

In addition, downstream from the Iron Gates, total water discharge will also decrease. At the same time, the forecast indicates that from July 11 through July 17, the overall water level will rise as a result of expected heavy rainfall. Furthermore, throughout the forecast period, water levels and discharge may rise in some rivers in hilly and mountainous areas.

The ferry service between Bechet (Romania) and Oryahovo (Bulgaria) has been temporarily suspended due to low water levels in the Danube River. According to authorities, service will resume once water levels rise and safe navigation is ensured, digi24 reports, citing Radio Romania Oltenia-Craiova. Drivers are advised to plan their trips in advance and use alternative border crossing points until ferry service resumes.
