It is noteworthy that H200 – the second most powerful processors for artificial intelligence in the line of Nvidia. The company’s CEO Jensen Huang (an American of Taiwanese descent) joined the American delegation at the last minute at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
Huang’s presence at the summit in Beijing may help break the impasse over chip sales, Reuters writes.
There are about 10 names on the list of Chinese companies approved by the U.S. Commerce Department as chip buyers, including Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance, JD.com, Lenovo and Foxconn. They are allowed to purchase either directly from Nvidia or through intermediaries. Each company can purchase up to 75,000 chips, the sources said.
According to one of the agency’s interlocutors, the conclusion of the deals has stalled as the Chinese firms backed out after relevant instructions from the Chinese authorities.
Before the tightening of export restrictions by the US, Nvidia controlled about 95% of the Chinese market for advanced chips. In the past, China accounted for 13% of its revenue.
