According to Vladimir Boli, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the repairs were necessary to maintain the road in good condition and to eliminate risks on sections with unsafe traffic management.
“The R3 is one of the most important arteries linking Chișinău with the centre and south of the country, and people need a road on which they can travel safely and in good conditions. We carried out work both on the carriageway and at points where traffic management posed risks to drivers,” said Vladimir Bolea.
The repair works were divided into four sectors, which allowed for the selection of optimal technical solutions tailored to the specific characteristics and degree of wear and tear of each section. In total, road workers treated over 321,000 square metres of carriageway.
Particular attention was paid in the project to road safety and improving traffic flow at complex junctions. Acceleration and deceleration lanes were constructed at the junction of the R3 and the G105 near the village of Pojăreni. At the junction with the G71 road, a temporary roundabout was constructed using water-filled plastic blocks with a radius of nine metres; central and dividing islands, road signs and bollards were installed, and rumble strips were laid. An autonomous system with solar panels was installed to illuminate the roundabout at night.
The total cost of the works amounted to 132.5 million lei, allocated from the Road Fund.
