The concept behind the exhibition
The central theme of the exhibition is an exploration of the connection between people and their native places, the memory of generations and spirituality. The artist himself explains the main idea behind the exhibition in the following words: ‘The space that loves me is the space that allows me to give meaning to life, that is, to find my own destiny. And to do this, I must rediscover my native space as a sacred place where I can naturally commune with the divine.’
In his works, Igor Isak draws on images from childhood and the ‘soft geometry of chance’: the circle, square, triangle, cross and hexagon, as well as Spengler’s philosophical conception of space.
The artist reflects on the complex history of the Bessarabian region, the traditions of Romanian painting from the interwar period, and the continuity between generations. The influence of the Bessarabian painter Mihai Grecu, whose innovation served as a guiding light for subsequent generations, occupies a special place in his artistic development.
His paintings have found their way all over the world
Igor Isak Olishkanescu was born in 1957 in the village of Olishkan, Republic of Moldova. Having graduated from the I. E. Repin College of Art in Chișinău and the Tallinn University of Art in Estonia, he successfully combines his work as a painter with that of a writer. The artist is a member of the Unions of Visual Artists of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the Writers’ Union of Romania.
The artist has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in significant group exhibitions in Moldova, Romania and abroad. Igor Isac’s works are held in the state museum collections of Moldova and Romania, as well as in numerous private collections both at home and abroad.
