The gas market will be liberalized

In 2025, 68 out of 189 large consumers have already entered the free market. Since the beginning of 2026, 109 contracts for more than 8,200 MWh have been concluded on the BRM platform, at prices ranging from 710 to 970 lei/MWh (excluding transportation and distribution tariffs).

According to the Ministry of Energy, the market is becoming more competitive with the entry of new regional suppliers – Bulgaria’s Bulgargaz North and Romania’s Romgaz Trading.

In early February, ANRE, the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Community Secretariat will hold a Gas Forum to connect consumers with suppliers and explain the possibilities of liberalization.
