
The 100th anniversary of the birth of Vasile Vasilache, a Romanian writer from Bessarabia, will be celebrated on July 4, 2026. As highlighted in a statement from the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), he made a significant contribution to the development of Romania’s cultural heritage.
His work explores themes such as identity, memory, and the interconnection between the individual and history. Thanks to his literary talent and refined style, Vasile Vasilache left behind works that continue to inspire generations of readers and remain relevant today.
The commemorative coin is made of silver with a face value of 50 lei and has a mintage of 500 pieces. The graphic design was created by Olga Radu. Each coin is packaged in a transparent methacrylate capsule and a gift box, and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, Ms. Anca Dragu.
The certificate contains a QR code that provides access to detailed information about the coin’s specifications on the institution’s official website.
Commemorative coins are sold by the NBM based on online applications, as well as through licensed banks in Moldova. These banks may set their own selling price, but it must not exceed 3% of the price set by the NBM.
