Romanian Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said last week that rising political tensions have led to a deterioration in market sentiment, which also affects the cost of government borrowing.
The far-right opposition party Alliance for the Unification of Romanians (AUR) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD), which left the government last month, filed a vote of no confidence in the cabinet led by liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Parliament will vote on the matter today, May 5.
Earlier last month, the Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD), the largest force in the Romanian parliament, withdrew its support for the government, with party leader Sorin Grindeanu blaming Bolojan for rising inflation and the loss of thousands of jobs.
Bolojan, who is also the leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said at the time that he would not resign and that his party would begin talks with other political groups in the coalition to explore the possibility of a functioning minority government.
