The winner of the general classification of the stage race was 19-year-old Hungarian rider Barnabás Vas from Team United Shipping. He completed the entire course in 15 hours, 02 minutes and 32 seconds, demonstrating absolute dominance. In addition to the yellow leader’s jersey, he also claimed the jerseys for best young rider, best climber and leader of the points classification.

Moldovan-born Cristian Raianu, riding as the leader of the Romanian national team, demonstrated superb form and an aggressive riding style. Raianu finished just 13 seconds behind the winner and confidently secured 2nd place in the general classification. Furthermore, Cristian was officially recognised as the best Romanian rider in the stage race (blue jersey).
The stage race concluded with a series of dynamic laps around the Palace of Parliament and the Triumphal Arch Park in Bucharest.
Riders from Moldova and the team classification
For Moldovan cycling, the stage race was memorable not only for Raianu’s impressive results, but also for a historic milestone: the country hosted a full-fledged international stage of a UCI 2.2-category race for the first time, as reported by Logos Press.
The Moldovan athletes performed well in the early stages of the race, but were unable to secure a place in the top 10 of the overall classification.
The best performer from the Moldovan team was Gennady Morgun, who finished 34th in the general classification. This is a very creditable performance for the 23-year-old rider from Tiraspol. It is worth noting that a total of 130 riders from 16 countries took part in the ‘Turul României 2026’.
The second Moldovan cyclist to remain in the tour after the first stage – 18-year-old Ilya Novikov from Chișinău – was unable to meet the strict time limit (he was given an OTL – Outside Time Limit), which meant he was eliminated from contention for the top places in the general classification.
However, his performance can still be considered a success, given his young age, the gruelling race conditions and the fierce competition. This is all the more so considering that, shortly before the Turul României, Ilya Novikov achieved an excellent result at another prestigious Romanian one-day cycle race, ‘The Wall’ (in Pucișoasa). There, he finished 9th overall out of 82 participants and also came third in the under-23 category.
The winner of the team classification at the ‘Turul României 2026’ was the Monegasque team UC Monaco.
