“We look forward to a very close and productive engagement with the International Monetary Fund mission to conclude the new program. This is an important stage in our economic dialog and confidence building. I ask all those involved to take these discussions with the utmost seriousness and professionalism, as we always do,” the prime minister said at a government meeting on May 6.
We shall remind you that the IMF mission is headed by Alina Iancu. During the visit, the fund’s experts will hold talks with the Moldovan authorities within a request for a new program under the Policy Coordination Instrument. They will analyze the latest economic trends, update macroeconomic forecasts and risks, as well as discuss policy and reform priorities with the authorities and other stakeholders.
Europe Day: “turnout is mandatory”
During the meeting, Munteanu also touched upon the celebration of Europe Day on May 9, announcing the government’s active participation in the events at the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau.
“This year, I want us all to be present there – not only symbolically, but also as actively as possible. Teams of ministries will work on the ground, to have a direct dialog with people, to explain what we are doing, how we are doing it and why it is important,” the prime minister said.
He emphasized the need to consolidate Moldova’s European course and to better explain the reforms carried out to the citizens.
“It is necessary to explain what Europe is, what challenges we have and how we strengthen our European path. It is important to consolidate around an idea and a European platform. Any initiative and project implies responsibility and what we do needs to be explained to people. This is a good opportunity to do that,” Munteanu added.
