The National Bank of Moldova set the official euro exchange rate for April 17 at 20.1614 MDL, which is 3.53 bani higher than the previous value. During the month, the currency shows volatility with localized periods of growth.
The dollar exchange rate fell from MDL 17.46 (as of April 8) to MDL 17.1164 (as of April 17). The total decline for the second ten-day period of April amounted to about 2%.
On the cash market commercial banks offer purchase of dollar at an average of 17.08 MDL, and euro at 20.00 MDL.
Forecasts of experts for the end of spring 2026 point to the preservation of leu stability with possible moderate weakening against euro on the background of global currency factors.
Moderate volatility of the euro is expected. The mid-year average is forecast at 19.91 MDL. During the second quarter, the exchange rate may fluctuate within a wide corridor of 19.60 – 20.61 MDL.
Against the dollar, the Moldovan currency will, according to forecasts, continue to strengthen. The range of fluctuations: 16.04 – 16.88 MDL.
Until the end of May, experts do not expect sharp collapses of the leu. The most probable scenario is stabilization of the dollar below 17.00 MDL and keeping the euro within 20.00-20.30 MDL.
The regulator (NBM) adheres to the “balance line” tactics, conducting cautious interventions to smooth out sharp jumps.
Leu strengthening may be limited by rising fuel and energy prices, which traditionally put pressure on the currency market in spring.
On the global market, EUR/USD dynamics (Bloomberg forecast at 1.18-1.19) will dictate the leu cross rates in Moldova.
