EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, Albania’s Minister for European and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha, former European Council President Charles Michel and former EU Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni also participated in the discussion.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s information, in his speech, the Moldovan diplomat spoke about the importance of the EU enlargement for the candidate countries, as well as for the entire bloc of the community, as an instrument for consolidating stability and security in the context of regional challenges. The official emphasized the measures taken by the authorities in Chisinau to strengthen state institutions and noted the need for sustainable mechanisms to ensure their effective functioning even after obtaining the EU member state status.

“The accession process is complex and long-term. We are strengthening the capacity of national institutions not for the sake of the European Union, but because Moldovan citizens expect it. We are making efforts to achieve results in the reform process, so that our institutions are solid and democratic, so that we can be truly competitive not only in the single market,” Mihai Popşoi said.

He also said that Moldova wants to become an EU member state, observing all the stages of the accession process, on the basis of merit and on equal conditions: “We want to be a member of the European Union with full rights, and we are working, like other candidate states, to ensure the achievement of this goal”.
