
Over the past year, the country has climbed 20 spots in this index. Moreover, the improvement has been steady: in 2024, we were ranked 107th, and in 2025, 84th.
The World Economic Forum’s Energy Transition Index (ETI) for 2026, published in collaboration with Accenture, assesses both the current state of energy systems and the conditions for further progress.
Two factors were primarily responsible for improving our country’s ranking: the stabilization of energy prices and reforms in the area of subsidies, as well as improvements in the country’s readiness for the energy transition (infrastructure, policy, and investment).
Sweden, Finland, and Denmark rank first in the index. Jamaica, Botswana, and the Congo bring up the rear.
Germany ranks 9th, China 14th, and the United States 19th.
Romania is in 18th place, ahead of the United States; Ukraine is in 58th, Turkey in 44th, and Russia is not on the list at all.
