Moldova is not going to expel Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov, as such a gesture would entail retaliation and complicate the regional situation.

Popshoy and Bayramov signed the Plan

This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi on the air of a Moldovan TV channel.

“It is obvious that such a tough step will trigger either a symmetric or asymmetric response. Therefore, we must take into account the complexity of the regional security situation and carefully weigh our actions accordingly,” Popşoi emphasized.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree appointing Ozerov as ambassador to Chisinau on September 10, 2024. Moldovan President Maia Sandu said earlier that she intends to accept the credentials of Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov in the future, but so far she cannot say when this will happen.

Sandu accepted the credentials of ambassadors again this week, but Ozerov was again not on the guest list, so journalists asked Popşoi to comment on whether this means that the diplomat could soon be declared persona non grata.
