The total volume of purchases amounted to 314,011 MWh, at a weighted average price of 131.52 euros/MWh. Compared to May, the bill increased by approximately 4.5 million euros, as the average price rose by more than 12 euros/MWh and the volume of electricity purchased increased by approximately 5,000 MWh.
The rise in the average price from 119.28 euros/MWh in May to 131.52 euros/MWh reflects a combination of regional factors that simultaneously affected Moldova’s energy markets. The heat wave that swept across Central and Eastern Europe in late June led to unusually high spot prices. On Romania’s day-ahead market (PZU-OPCOM), from which Energocom purchases part of its energy, the average daily price on June 29 reached 224 euros/MWh, and during peak periods exceeded 1,000 euros/MWh—a record for the year.
For Energocom, the direct impact of these price spikes depends on the structure of its contracts. Only 14.28% of June’s purchases were made on spot markets (PZU via OPCOM and BRM), where prices surged sharply. The remainder of the imports—50.41% of the total volume—came through bilateral contracts with suppliers from Romania and Ukraine, which offer more stable prices. However, the overall pressure on the regional market affected the final weighted average price, which jumped by more than 10% compared to May.
