Party Chairman and Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu thanked the outgoing prime minister for his work in a brief social media post.

“We thank Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu for agreeing to lead the Cabinet during such a challenging period for our country, as well as for the efforts he made together with his colleagues in the government,” Grosu said.

According to him, following the consultations with parliamentary factions announced by President Maia Sandu, PAS will discuss the measures that need to be taken in the near future.

“In the coming days, the PAS faction will discuss the steps that need to be taken moving forward, including with regard to key reforms, tax policy, and the law on wages. We will listen to various opinions and analyze public expectations very carefully,” noted Igor Grosu. He emphasized that the Republic of Moldova’s continued European course remains the top priority.

President Maia Sandu announced this morning that consultations on the formation of a new government will begin next week, but clarified that it is too early to discuss potential candidates for the post of prime minister.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation on the morning of July 3. “The moment I realized that I could no longer fulfill my mandate in accordance with my principles and convictions, I decided to step down,” he said.

It should be noted that, according to the Constitution, the resignation of the prime minister triggers the resignation of the entire government. Until the members of the new government are sworn in, the current government performs only the functions of managing public affairs.

After consulting with parliamentary factions, the president nominates a candidate for the office of prime minister. Within 15 days of the nomination, the candidate for prime minister asks parliament to express a vote of confidence in the government’s program and the entire cabinet.
