The deciding game of the World Championship, which took place in Zurich, Switzerland, was as tense as possible and ended without a goal in regulation time. Konsta Helenius scored the winning goal in the 11th minute of overtime, giving Finland its fifth World Championship title in history.

For Switzerland, it was its third consecutive defeat in the World Cup finals. The national team was once again one step away from its first World Cup gold medal, despite its status as the tournament hosts and its solid performance in the course of the competition.

Norway left Canada without medals

One of the main surprises of the tournament was the Norwegian team. In the match for third place the Norwegians beat Canada 3:2 in overtime and for the first time reached the podium of the World Championship. Noah Sten scored the winning goal 3 minutes 32 seconds after the start of extra time.

For Canada, this is the third consecutive World Championship without medals, which looks especially notable against the backdrop of traditionally high expectations from one of the leading hockey powers.

The 2026 World Championship was held in Switzerland from May 15-31. The tournament confirmed the intensification of competition in world hockey. In addition to the traditional favorites, a serious bid for higher positions was made by the teams of Norway and Switzerland, which managed to become among the main participants in the fight for medals.
