‘European Researchers’ Night’ is a European Union initiative dedicated to science and innovation and funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Programme. The aim of the event is to bring researchers closer to the general public, to demonstrate the diversity and importance of science, and to inspire young people to pursue careers in scientific research. Every year, this event takes place in more than 400 European cities and attracts over 2 million visitors.

In Moldova, the event is organised by the EU-funded Sci-TRUST project (‘Strengthening Trust in Science’). The project’s activities are aimed at combating disinformation, promoting scientific careers and professions in the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics), and strengthening links between education and science.

“As the Republic of Moldova progresses on its path towards EU accession, rebuilding the links between science and society is becoming a prerequisite for democratic participation and integration into the European Research Area,” the event’s page states.

This year, in Chișinău and Bălți, researchers will meet the public and present their work through hands-on experiments, science shows, games, quizzes, competitions, exhibitions and digital activities.

The programme includes an ‘eco’-themed fashion show (organised by the Faculty of Design at the Technical University of Moldova), a presentation of research findings by scientific organisations, an exhibition and competition entitled ‘Creativity Unlocks the Universe’, interactive sessions for children and masterclasses, an open-day event at the planetarium (Chișinău) and in scientific laboratories (Bălți), as well as a musical performance.

In Chișinău, the event will take place in the park of the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) on Studențească Street. In Bălți, the ‘Night’ will be held in the square in front of the Alecu Russo State University on Pushkin Street.

The Sci-TRUST project (‘Strengthening Trust in Science: European Researchers’ Night’) is funded by the European Union’s research and innovation programme, ‘Horizon Europe’.
