
The Cakir readings are a platform for open dialog between representatives of different Moldovan backgrounds. They are usually held at the end of April and are timed to coincide with the birthday of the prominent educator, Archpriest Mihail Cakir – April 27. This day is also celebrated in Gagauzia as Mother Language Day – “Ana dili”.
This year, the readings took place in the municipality of Ceadir-Lunga, within the walls of the St. Demetrius Monastery. They were attended by representatives of the clergy, scientists, teachers, cultural workers and public figures. Among the participants were also renowned scholars and researchers in the field of Gagauz studies from different countries.

Mihail Cakir is a famous Gagauz clergyman and educator. To the 150th anniversary of Mihail Cakir’s birth in 2011, a bust was erected to the enlightener in the central cemetery of Chisinau.
