The Egyptian diplomat said that the opening of a permanent diplomatic mission in Cairo is one of the objectives he would like to see achieved in the relationship between the two states.

“Both countries share the ambition to take our relationship to a higher level very soon. We hope that the Republic of Moldova will soon open an embassy in Cairo. Of course, this would be a very important step in the right direction. An embassy in Cairo would allow for closer interaction, faster transmission of messages between the two governments and more effective communication between the institutions of the two countries,” said Mohammed Moustafa Orfy on the programme “Dimensiunea Diplomatică” on Moldova 1.

According to the diplomat, a Moldovan embassy in Cairo would not only be significant for relations with Egypt, but could also contribute to the development of Moldova’s relations with countries in the region.

“It would be a very significant boost for the Republic of Moldova’s diplomacy. This would create a new impetus, which would be reflected in every aspect of our bilateral relations,” the ambassador added.

He acknowledged that the volume of bilateral trade is still modest compared to the existing potential. The ambassador mentioned agriculture, infrastructure, energy and water management technologies among the areas in which Egypt could cooperate with the Republic of Moldova.

In his view, the development of economic relations should be based, in particular, on direct contacts between companies and businesspeople from the two countries.
