Once approved and enacted, the new version will replace the current Classification (CAEM-2). The draft includes transition tables designed to ensure consistency in coding for economic agents during the transition to the new standard.

The initiative to update the national statistical system under the auspices of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) aims to align the Moldovan classification with the European standard NACE Rev. 2.1 to ensure accurate international comparison of economic data.

The code structure will be fully adapted to changes in the European NACE Rev. 2.1 classification, taking into account the emergence of new economic sectors (digital services, green energy, modern technologies) and types of employment (freelancers).

Once it officially enters into force, the application of the new CAEM 2.1 version will become strictly mandatory for all entities within the national statistical system, government agencies, and business sectors when registering and maintaining records.
