According to the Moldova Fruct Association, based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture, nearly 5,000 metric tons of Moldovan apples were exported to Russia last month ($4.71 million, $0.95/kg), more than 1,850 metric tons to Romania ($1.38 million, $0.75/kg), and nearly 202 metric tons to Saudi Arabia ($0.23 million, $1.14/kg). In addition, several dozen metric tons of apples from Moldova were shipped to Poland, Belarus, and Iceland.
In June 2025, Moldova exported only about 1,700 metric tons ($1.19 million, $0.69/kg) of apples to three countries—Russia, Romania, and Ukraine.
During the current decade, Moldova’s highest June apple export volumes were recorded in 2022 (about 21,000 metric tons) and in 2021 (just over 15,000 metric tons).
According to operators in Moldova’s fruit market, the relatively large volume of apple exports in June of this year is due to local traders having significant stockpiles of this fruit, which is of good quality. At the same time, there is still demand for this product in foreign markets. Sales—both in foreign and domestic markets—are likely to continue until the end of summer.
A similar situation is observed in the European Union. Some major apple producers (Italy, Poland, and others) had inventories in June that exceeded last year’s levels at the same time. At the same time, specialized analytical organizations also noted a rapid decline in these inventories as the end of the marketing season approached.
