On July 2, Romania’s National Road Investment Company signed a contract for the construction of Section IV of the A8 Targu Mures–Iasi–Ungheni highway. The contract is worth 3.57 billion Romanian lei (13.75 billion Moldovan lei, or approximately 680 million euros), and was signed with a consortium of Italian companies consisting of Itinera S.p.A., Saipem S.p.A., and ICM SPA.

Construction of the first kilometers of the highway in the Republic of Moldova is scheduled to begin in 2027, coinciding with the start of Romanian work on the section of the A8 highway (Unirii Highway) bordering Moldova.

This involves the construction of the final section of the Uniri Highway, which is to extend to the border with the Republic of Moldova in Ungheni, as well as the first 5 kilometers of the highway on Moldovan territory.

The total duration of the project is 46 months, of which ten months are allocated for design and 36 months for construction.

At the same time, Romania and the Republic of Moldova (represented by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Boly) signed a government agreement establishing the necessary legal framework for the investment.
