The details of the program were discussed by Minister of Education and Research Dan Perchun and an EIB delegation led by the bank’s Vice President Karl Nehammer—the former Federal Chancellor of Austria. According to the ministry’s press service, the initiative aims to modernize infrastructure and equip universities with state-of-the-art equipment. Particular attention was paid to the creation of three national hubs designed to stimulate research and innovation in order to strengthen the link between the academic community, the real economy, and society.
During the meeting, the parties also reviewed the progress of the “Rehabilitation and Modernization of Schools in Moldova” project.
As Logos Press has previously reported, the project involves renovating and equipping 20 educational institutions included in the network of model schools. The total budget for this project is 51.5 million euros: 40 million in the form of an EIB loan, 3.5 million as a grant, and 8 million provided by the Moldovan government.
The selected schools are located in various regions of the country: eight are in Chișinău, six are in rural areas, and the rest are in the municipality of Bălți and the districts of Nisporeni, Soroca, Rîșcani, Tăleniști, and Ungheni. Both projects are being implemented as part of the national Reform Agenda with the support of European partners.
