CNN reports this, citing officials.
The sources said they “cannot be sure that the summit will go smoothly, given the president’s bad mood.”
As noted in the report, Trump “complained angrily behind closed doors about the lack of support from NATO, and this rhetoric was reflected in his public statements.”
At the same time, European leaders are hoping the meeting in Ankara will proceed without major conflict, planning to make new defense commitments to appease Trump, CNN reports.
The next NATO summit will take place in Ankara on July 7–8, during which European members of the alliance hope to restore their strained relations with the U.S. president. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also attend the summit, hoping to secure additional assistance in the conflict against Russia.
