In his official statement, Jardan clarified that the situation had already been resolved directly with the prime minister.
“I regret the confusion that arose this morning during the Ceremony of Remembrance for the Victims of Deportations at the moment when the attending officials were announced. The fact that Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu was not mentioned in the official announcement was not intentional. At the time the ceremony program was approved on Friday, July 3—when the event agenda was published—the Prime Minister’s participation had not yet been confirmed. Confirmation came later, on Saturday, July 4, and, unfortunately, these changes were not incorporated into the final script of the ceremony,” the minister explained.
Christian Jardan also emphasized that he personally resolved the situation: “I regret this misunderstanding. I personally discussed the situation with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and offered him a proper apology.”
The culture minister’s response came after an awkward moment occurred this morning at a rally commemorating the victims of Stalinist deportations. Although the country’s entire top leadership attended the ceremony, the name of outgoing Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu was not included in the list of state leaders presented to the public during the event.
