Previously, if an imported vehicle lacked all documents containing its full technical specifications, the owner had to personally take the car to one of three special identification centers (located only in the cities of Chisinau, Balti, and Cahul). There, a technical inspection was conducted, which could take up to 3 days due to long lines.
Now, however, the “single window” principle is in effect.
There is no longer any need to seek out specialized centers. You can go directly to the nearest AGU office for vehicle registration. Everything is handled on the spot: the vehicle is identified directly at the AGU.
Verifications and document exchanges are carried out within the organization, online, through the agency’s electronic systems.
Documents are submitted electronically: specialists send the documents to the Vehicle Registration Office on the same day to verify the vehicle’s history in its country of origin.
The new rules also apply in cases where the original vehicle documents issued abroad have been lost or damaged.
Between 2025 and 2026, approximately 33,000 passenger cars were imported into Moldova.
