The document establishes a set of minimum standards regarding the rights and social protection of workers in the automotive, aviation, and maritime transportation sectors, as well as in road construction and maintenance, work on online platforms, and driver training. At the same time, it will serve as the basis for collective bargaining at the level of each unit within the industry.
The convention introduces a number of measures aimed at ensuring greater stability and predictability in labor relations. These include strengthening guarantees regarding wages and the payment of bonuses, measures to prevent mass layoffs and combat undeclared work, the expansion of certain rights regarding leave and the protection of workers in family-related circumstances, as well as clearer rules governing working hours and rest periods.
Particular attention is paid to the professional development of workers. The convention provides for support for continuing education and skills development, including through the annual allocation of resources by departments for staff training, so that workers can develop their skills and meet the ever-changing demands of the labor market.
At the same time, the social partners commit to cooperating to develop the sector, promoting investment, improving the regulatory framework for operators in this field, strengthening occupational safety and health, and supporting social dialogue as a tool for identifying and resolving issues in the transportation and infrastructure sectors.
The signing of the Convention reaffirms the shared commitment of the authorities, employers, and labor unions to the development of the transportation and infrastructure sectors through social dialogue and partnership, so that the modernization of the industry is accompanied by improved working conditions and the creation of a stable environment for both workers and employers.
