This is stated in an official statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“On June 25, the Romanian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, K. Istrate, was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was handed a note from the Ministry announcing that the Consul General of Romania in St. Petersburg had been declared persona non grata and that the country’s consular office located there would be closed.
This measure is a response to Bucharest’s completely unfounded revocation of its consent to the operation of the Russian Consulate General in Constanța and the declaration of its head as persona non grata,” the statement notes.
As “Vedomosti” reports, on May 29, Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanța and the expulsion of Consul General Andrei Kosilin. The decision was linked to a drone crash into a residential building in the city of Galați, in which two people were injured.
