Grain prices in Romania stood at the following levels at the end of last workweek:

  • bread wheat: DAP Constanta – 1,020 lei/metric ton (194.8 euros/metric ton);
  • feed wheat DAP Constanta – 985 lei/metric ton (188.06 euros/metric ton).

September wheat futures contracts on the European Euronext exchange continue to trend downward. By the end of last week, they had fallen to 201 euros/metric ton (from a two-week high of 205 euros/metric ton).

The Black Sea region maintains a competitive advantage in the international wheat market. For July deliveries, Russian wheat with a protein content of 11.5% is offered at $231–233/metric ton (FOB). This is the cheapest of the available options. Wheat from Romania and Ukraine is being offered at a price approximately $3–4/metric ton higher than Russian wheat. Meanwhile, French wheat is trading on exchange platforms at a price $6–8/metric ton higher.

A key factor supporting prices is strong demand, including through auctions for feed wheat destined for Italy and Tunisia, which confirms continued interest in this commodity from the Black Sea region, according to agrointel.
