Kazakhstan changes the structure of agricultural lands in favor of oilseeds

The pattern of sown areas in the grain-growing regions of the country is changing. More and more agricultural producers are abandoning low-yielding cereals in favor of oilseeds and fodder crops. In 2026, sown areas in the country increased by almost 182 thousand hectares and amounted to more than 23.8 million hectares.

Including sown areas of grain and leguminous crops amounted to 15.8 million hectares, oilseeds – 4.3 million hectares, fodder – 3.3 million hectares, said Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov.

Thus, grain crops account for 66% of the country’s farmland, while oilseeds account for 18%. But three years ago, the picture was different: cereals accounted for 73% of farmland, oilseeds – only 11.7%.

Earlier, Logos Press reported that in 2025 Kazakhstan will take the sixth place in the world in the export of sunflower oil. The country’s leadership intends to raise Kazakhstan to the fourth position of the global ranking of suppliers of this product in the short term.
