Trump went off on Netanyahu over the war in Lebanon

US President Donald Trump had one of the most tense conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu since his return to the White House. The reason was the escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, which jeopardized the negotiation process between Washington and Tehran.

The conversation took place in elevated tones. Trump was extremely irritated by Israel’s actions and at one point told Netanyahu that he had “lost his mind,” Meduza wrote, citing Axios interlocutors. One of the sources claims that the American leader reminded the Israeli prime minister of his support and said: “If it weren’t for me, you would be in jail right now. I save you, and now because of your actions everyone hates Israel.”

According to another source, Trump did not hide his emotions and shouted out during the conversation: “What the fuck are you doing?” (in the original – “What the fuck are you doing?”).

The White House head’s irritation was linked to fears that Israel’s new military operation in Lebanon could finally disrupt US diplomatic contacts with Iran. After the phone call, Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social that he asked Netanyahu to abandon the large-scale operation in Beirut. According to the American president, the Israeli prime minister agreed to adjust plans.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed the conversation, but emphasized that Israel’s position remains unchanged. The prime minister warned that if Hizbullah attacks continue, the Israeli army will strike targets in Beirut.

According to Axios, after a tense conversation, Israel refused to prepare strikes against Hizbullah targets in the Lebanese capital. U.S. sources say they believe this is the result of pressure from Trump in Washington, although tensions between the allies remain high.

The conflict over Lebanon has already begun to affect the broader diplomatic process. Iran had previously named a ceasefire as one of the conditions for talks with the US, and after the latest Israeli actions announced the suspension of contacts with Washington. Against this background, the further fate of the U.S.-Iran negotiations remains uncertain.
