According to sources familiar with the talks, the American leader believes that the peace process between Kiev and Moscow has reached an impasse. He urged Beijing to use its influence on Russia to persuade Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin to return to talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the sources added.
“The call showed Washington’s clear need to involve Beijing in its efforts to end the war, a conflict that Trump has made one of the centerpieces of his foreign policy after returning to the White House in 2025,” the influential Chinese publication commented.
