Congratulations for Children's Day

President Maia Sandu urged children to use their summer vacations to get acquainted with the world of books and invited them to participate in a reading marathon that will last until the end of August. The children were invited to talk about the books they have read and share their impressions, and the most active readers will be invited to the Presidential Administration.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu wished the children to grow healthy, inquisitive and self-confident. He emphasized that the investments in education, schools, kindergartens, cultural and sports activities are the most important investments of the state in the country’s future. In addition, the head of the government urged parents to spend more time with their children.

For its part, the Labor and Social Protection Ministry recalled the support measures for families with children. The ministry said that the lump-sum allowance at the birth of a child was increased to 21,866 lei, while children under the age of two receive a monthly allowance of 1,000 lei, regardless of whether their parents are insured or not. Also, starting from 2026, all children with disabilities will receive an additional payment of 3,000 lei annually.

“We will continue to develop services and programs aimed at supporting parents and creating better conditions for the growth and development of each child,” said Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plugaru.

We shall remind you that the number of children in Moldova (from 0 to 17 years old) in 2025 amounted to 553 thousand people, or 23.2% of the population. At the same time, the birth rate continues to decline: 22.1 thousand newborn children were registered in 2025, which is 6.6 per cent less than a year earlier.
