Waiting for the official unbundling of the company and the creation of the new structure “Pasageri și Marfă” hinders access to vital resources. The draft amendments to the Railway Transport Code will allow the conclusion of multi-year contracts for infrastructure management on a priority basis, which will enable the utilization of 300 million lei envisaged in the state budget for 2026.
During the transition period, the new company “Calea Ferată din Moldova – Pasageri și Marfă” will be able to obtain the necessary authorizations even if it has accumulated historical debts, provided that it presents a clear plan to repay these financial obligations to the state social security budget and the mandatory health insurance funds.
In parallel, the project opens up opportunities for strategic urban mobility projects by creating a legal framework for subsidizing short-distance rail transport. This will allow for the first time a direct rail connection to the Eugen Doghi International Airport and the national rail network, thereby reducing the burden on road traffic.
The project will be submitted for consideration at the government meeting on Wednesday, June 3.
