It should be noted that in 2021 the country was in 59th place.

This index, developed by sociologists and economists from the international expert group of the Institute of Peace together with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies of the University of Sydney, characterizes, in their opinion, the level of security of living in countries and regions.

The index was first calculated in May 2007.

The Global Peace Index is the world’s leading global indicator of the level of peacefulness in the world. The index assesses 163 countries based on 23 indicators that fall into three categories: public security, ongoing conflict and militarization.

The report provides the most comprehensive analysis to date of trends in peace, its economic value, and the ways in which peaceful societies develop.

Iceland, Ireland and New Zealand were recognized as the most peaceful (and safe) last year.

Germany ranked 20th, Romania (along with Vietnam) 38th.

The USA is at 128th position, Iran at 142, Turkey at 146 and Israel at 155. Ukraine (162) and Russia (163) round out the list.

And the countries with the most growing militarization are Israel, the United States, North Korea, Ukraine and Russia.

In general, the average level of peacefulness in the world worsened by 0.36%.

“The average level of peacefulness in countries declined by 5.4% between 2008 and 2025. Over the same period, 94 countries became less peaceful, while 66 countries improved,” the index authors report.
